David Silverman

David SilvermanI'm a first year philosophy PhD student at the University of Stirling. Previously, I studied at Leeds (Philosophy) and Sussex (Philosophy of Cognitive Science). My thesis looks at visual perception, with a focus on Alva Noë's enactive account; my aim is to defend some form of Noë-style enactivism, seeing what happens when the approach comes into contact with issues including (so far) the puzzle of temporal experience, the dual streams theory and the McDowell-Dreyfus debate.

Discussion Topic: What is the difference between "knowing how" and "knowing that"? Do supporters of enactive or embodied cognition necessarily need to favour one over the other?
